HM Land Registry (HMLR) and Ordnance Survey (OS) have announced a new three-year partnership aimed at creating a more connected, digitally enabled property market across England.
The two government bodies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration on geospatial and land registration data. The agreement will focus on improving how property information is shared, managed, and used to support citizens, businesses, and public services.
Under the partnership, HMLR and Ordnance Survey will align their geospatial strategies, enhance the distribution of trusted land data through Ordnance Survey’s DataHub platform, and exchange technical expertise and best practices. The organisations say these improvements will help modernise land registration while increasing the accessibility and quality of property data.
The collaboration is expected to deliver practical benefits across the property sector, including more efficient land registration, improved environmental planning, stronger protection against fraudulent duplicate property titles, and better assessment of insurance risk through combined geographical and ownership data.
Tina Kennedy, Chief Customer Officer at Ordnance Survey, said the organisation’s mapping data has long played a vital role in the land registration process and that the new agreement will strengthen connectivity across the housing market while improving access to trusted government data.
Lynne Nicholson, Deputy Director for Data at HM Land Registry, said the partnership reflects the agency’s ambition to move beyond traditional record keeping and use high-quality data to support economic growth and unlock new opportunities throughout the housing sector.
The initiative also supports the UK government’s wider housing strategy, including its commitment to accelerate housing delivery and improve digital public services. Over the next three years, both organisations will work together to develop a more efficient and data-driven property market for England.
